Coastal Dreams (Best viewed Large)

I have been working on these longer exposure sunsets a bit lately. What's interesting about this one, is that the sun is setting to the right and behind me, rather than in front which is typical. It lights up the front of the clouds and even the foreground a bit more. Your thoughts and opinions are always welcome and appreciated. www.hawaiianphotos.net

Nice shot Vincent. I find the drama of the waves over the rocks well captured with your selected shutter speed and nicely accentuated by those low hovering clouds. Probably a touch more detail in the lowest rocks would indeed be nice. I too have a problem with the odd colours though - I wonder if it might be worth trying some additional PS adjustments to get a somewhat more convincing palette than what seems to have been offered by using the orange filter (maybe some more blue tones in at least some of the water and sky)?

Thanks Richard! Since this is what you specialize in, I always value your opinions on these types of images. I shall continue to adjust somewhat to see what can be done for an even more realistic appearance. I do however like the painterly feel that it currently has and will possibly print-proof several versions before choosing one to master. I have one other like this that has been scanned and will work on it from a more realistic point of view. Thanks again, and thanks to ALL of you for taking a moment to share your thoughts on this image!

Although I hope to die somewhere like this, since not only am I morbid enough to think about it, and the fact this image is STUNNING, I must ask you something. Do you use tinted gradient density filters?

Great use of DOF. The puffy clouds look tasty too! Cool!

I like this, Vincent. The colors are a bit strong, yes, but within limits, and I love the composition and the water movement. One of your best shots imo. Regards.

Indeed, it is a great image. I think the rocks around the left and right side and bottom do a very nice job of natural framing and draw the eye up to that truly spectacular sky. Its good to see a variation on the traditional sunset image, that doesn't rely on a big glowing disk hanging in the sky to elicit the environmental drama. Nicely done.

I wouldn't hesitate to hang such picture on my wall. If I only had luck to take it myself though. The black framing is too heavy to my taste.

I'm surprised at the number of exceptional shots of yoy that I have missed. This one is just one of your very best. All the others folks have already said every possible praise so I am at a loss of words to say something new :-)
