Coastal Dreams (Best viewed Large)

I have been working on these longer exposure sunsets a bit lately. What's interesting about this one, is that the sun is setting to the right and behind me, rather than in front which is typical. It lights up the front of the clouds and even the foreground a bit more. Your thoughts and opinions are always welcome and appreciated. www.hawaiianphotos.net

These superwide shots of water, sky and rocks are easy, extremely popular, and so common that after seeing essentially the same image day after day they no longer have impact. I think many of us are having a fed-up "oh no, not another one" reaction to these pretty pictures..

Ditto to what Doug said. Impact for the sake of impact just doesn't cut it. I'm sure it would have been nice to be there and watch the scene, but here the photo actually seems to diminish what must have been there in reality. The sky looks as if it were heavily filtered for the color. Why is the sky between the clouds deep peachy pink when there are cool blue reflections on the water from the BLUE sky. Also, the saturation in the reflections is over the top, and the composition isn't particularly interesting. The power of the picture is all about the color, which is fake, so what's the point? Even if we accept that this is a creative vision rather than a document of what was there, it isn't very special. I'll never understand why people rate images like this so highly.

So what? Who cares what you think? This image was taken several years ago for one. This image has sold very well. It has also been used for stock usage by others. I even like the shot. Your opinion here is totally useless.

The water is a blue-green here because that is the color of the Pacific ocean. No rocket science needed for that one. I used a Cokin 198 sunset filter on this, which was mentioned much earlier in the thread. It adds a warm color to the image. So what if I did? That's what they make filters for by the way, TOO add color when color is needed. I could have used none at all, and if you look at my portfolio, you will see I always take some images with no filters. And post many images with no filters. But this image looked better with the filter. If you don't like it, that is fine with me, I don't really care btw. Like I said above, this has been a successful image in many different applications. And I also happen to like looking at it as well.

A hui hou,
