melloncollie 0 Posted November 2, 2011 Ravi!i have a recently posted photo, which has an average rating of 6,20/7 from 5 ratings. as your name appeared on the list, it was 5,50/7 out of 6 ratings. that means you rated my photo 2/7! correct me if i am wrong. i suggest you to come back and explain to me why do you think it is so bad. i dont think it is your real opinion, but i am curious why are you doing this. ravi_s 0 Posted November 4, 2011 Hello SzaboI have looked at my ratings of more than 400 photographers and i have rated two of your photographs1.Brown hill 4 average rating 4.42autum evening 2 average rating 5.44I guess you would be interested in the 2 for autum eveningThough the photograph is technically fine (sans any errors with focus, colour, uneven tones etc ) my main reason for rating it 2 was the 'OVERIMPOSING FOREGROUND'.The uninteresting foreground occupied nearly 40% of the image obviously compromising the middle ground and background. This has compromised the beauty of the composition. The rating as you know is random. It is not unusual to sometimes rate a photo low but the average rating is high(the alternative is true aswell)If this happens i tend to go back and look at the comments to see why the photograph has been rated different to my rating..Ideally rating and critique should go together to give a rationale explanation of your assesment ...because of the time constrains , i can only rate the images. The general rule of thumb i follow -Technical flaw -1(most in photo net are above 1)technically fine some aesthetic flaw or mundane (seen it million times )-2-3Technically and aesthetically good 3-45-6 excellent ....stops you or makes you come back7-never seen any thing like that ...wow factor(you have some in your portfolio),human interest stories, stories of relationship, exceptional timing, innovative and aesthetically suprerb etc. The bottom line is 'beauty is in the eye of beholder'closing nowravi Link to comment
