A beautiful image that is soft and delicate. The powder blue background contrasts effectively with the orange areas. And then there is that wonderful raindrop with the sun rays on the upper left. While I recognize and think that the rain drop  is the star of the image it does occupy a fairly small percentage. The leaf from which it hangs is almost in focus and it also has drops along with interesting textures. From a personal preference, I would have liked that leaf to be more crisp. I know how difficult that would have been presuming that this hand held. I usually grab an insurance  first shot 'hand held' just in case the drop disengages and then try and setup the tripod. If I had managed to setup the tripod, I would have taken two or three images while adjusting the focus and then using Photoshop, I would have done the focus stack process.

Again, this is just one opinion and hopefully healthy dialogue but perhaps you like your image in its current state.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful critique.  I couldn't agree more about the focus.  At the time I took this (five years ago), I had no idea what focus stacking was, I just saw a water drop on a leaf and thought it was neat-o :) At the time I was forced to make a decision, focus on the drop or focus on the leaf, the photograph bears witness to my choice.

I appreciate that you've planted the seed of things to consider the next time I'm in this situation.

Joscelyn has covered mostly everything I might have said and add to that, I find the image appealing because I can associate the small blue portion in the raindrop with the larger blue background.

The balance here for me expressed hopefully simply:

Big yellow vs small yellow

little blue and Big Blue.

Of course this is a personal preference.

I actually love that crop, Tony.  I don't think I would have ever even considered it but that just illustrates how important it is to consider everything.  Thanks for stopping by and offering your thoughts.  It's always appreciated.

I am no expert but I may see something different to you.  I am glad you found it appealing. This is what Photo.net should be about but this type of dialogue takes time - it is less time consuming to assign a number and move on. Please do not hesitate to offer an opinion or technical advice on any of my images.
