This is a very interesting compositional study. The angle of view provides the nice diagonal that offsets all the rectangles. The title is a terrific touch as is the shadow of the road sign. Well made, Amy!

This photo and the one to the left of it on your home page, the one of the nighttime storefront window with the empty sign frame dangling above it, express both a kind of loneliness and quiet peacefulness. Both aspire to a quality of not quite being able to put your finger on something, as if there is more to the photo or the scene than meets the eye, though that feeling comes precisely from what does meet the eye photographically. This one, in particular, because of the effect of that shadow and the lighting and receding perspective, puts the viewer in the scene and creates a kind of presence that is very much felt. I think the stronger lighting toward the rear of the building nicely plays against the lone shadow that is in the more shadowed area of the photo. The brighter lighting also gives a sense of presence.

I'm conflicted about the sign in the window which provides the title to the photo. Titling it that way gives a certain kind of literalness to an otherwise fairly non-literal photo, where the subject serves the mood rather than this photo being about the subject or scene itself.

Fred, it's a week later and I just realized that I only thought I had responded to your comments. First of all, thank you for looking and commenting. In regard to the signage and titling of the piece: this is a style that seems to be emerging for me. In my infancy of attempting to do so street photography, I notice that most of my work so far has some sort of signage or graffiti involved. I would like to note that this has not been done consciously- just the scenes my eye has been drawn to. Of course, now I've noticed it and it is conscious :-)

Your thoughts about the title somehow guiding the thoughts of the viewer is a point well taken. Titling these works with the words in the scene is again something that has just come naturally. Not to say I will or I wont continue this practice in the future, but it gives another perspective to think about.

Thanks for your input!

An street image with a message of something and then I read Fred's comment and it made sense that I felt this image has character or something more. Warm regards.
