patrick_feltmate1 0 Posted April 18, 2001 If the web was in sharp focus throughout the entire picture this would be great. Link to comment
kkwan 0 Posted April 19, 2001 Amazing shot! How did you meter this? Exposure of the web is near perfect! Wow! I really like the details on the spider and how is stands out against the green backgroun. Perhaps just a little more DOF to keep all of the web in focus. Well done! sheldon_ward 0 Posted July 3, 2001 Woh! What kind of spider is that? Looks like it could give a mean bite! Would like to see more depth of field though. It may rain but I think I would step on it if it was close to the house... don't want a hundred of its kids getting in next year! Link to comment
jamin 0 Posted July 5, 2001 This is a really nice picture which is spoiled somewhat by the plane of focus being out of wack. I think your depth of field is fine, you just needed to be more careful/critical in your setup - the camera (and hence film and focal plane) are not parallel to your subject (spider and web), so the image is soft on one side of the frame. A way to ensure this doesn't happen is - with the camera on your tripod - to move away a few steps and see if your camera back is perfectly aligned with your subject before tripping the shutter. tommy huynh 0 Posted August 18, 2002 It's a black and yellow agriope. I got one also living outside my door. Their bite is no worse than a bee's but they look scary as hell. Link to comment
my_pics 0 Posted April 23, 2003 Hi, Tommy Huynh made a typo. The spelling is: argiope. :) These garden spiders are very large and have the colloquial name: "Writing Spider" because of the zipper-looking designe written up and down the middle. I've seen Argiopes for years and have never seen one in this position. The zipper design is always vertical and the spiders are usually pointed down. Perhaps Christopher forgot to rotate this one 90 degrees right. I live on 80 acres of woodland and have ambitions of getting some good Argiope shots this Summer. A few days ago I got several macro shots of a smaller variety and they're posted in my Mavica folder. Christopher, this is a very nice image (except for the shallow or misplaced DOF). Link to comment
