Pierre Dumas 313 Posted September 25, 2011 I mean the caption, not the picture! The picture looks strong and must say daring, but the sunlight maybe doesn't suit the theme because it kind of makes it usual, the circumstances are not usual, the sunlight therefore weakens the scene and the theme! Nice body BTW!Best regards Roger!PDE Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted September 25, 2011 Pierre, i think it is not so important when you realize this is but one image in series of 12. to lessen the impact of the sun, one could convert to b&w, which i think might actually be the best way to present this series. anyway i appreciate your constructive critiqueall the bestroger Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted September 25, 2011 I am not too knowledgable about religion but I don't think this is the way to get a Mercedes Benz... well maybe it is but I think she is asking the wrong person. Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted September 25, 2011 David, you may very well be right about the wrong person, when was naming this image, was listening to janis joplins album "cheap thrills" when this song was playing and it felt a appropriate title for the image. Link to comment
aly_manduca 0 Posted September 26, 2011 I love the picture, and the homage to janis, of course. There is a lightheartedness to the picture, simplicity, but also something dark. The woman's pose does look a bit desperate and truly in need. The composition is good. I'm not sure whether It would be better more centered or not. Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted September 26, 2011 Aly, appreciate your detailed critique. is funny you mention the composition, as i have just spent the morning re-working most of series of (12) into mostly tighter crops or centering images or both. think am fairly happy with original compositions, it's just fun having a play. also not sure if i like this series better in color or b&w. LenMarriott 9 Posted September 26, 2011 Why not? 'I don't know, perhaps because you mock Me?' 'Could arrange for you to get run over by a Benz though'. :-) On a serious note, I agree with Pierre in that mottled sunlight perhaps isn't the most flattering light for this type of image. Disclaimer: Advice from someone who's never indulged in nude photography is probably worth what you are paying for it. Best, LM. Link to comment
mike_palermiti 3 Posted September 26, 2011 Hi Roger,An unusual scene, well shot. The lighting is natural and the image corresponds well to the setting.Best Regards, Mike Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted September 26, 2011 Len, always appreciate a good sense of humor. also really appreciate advice regardless of whether you have worked in the nude genre before or not. what makes for a good nude image is pretty well the same as in all fields in photography. usually light and good composition are high up on that list. as to my use of mottled light, if you look at my portfolio you will see i use it rather a lot especially when working with nudes. perhaps too much! again thanks for your comments. Mike, guess it is sort of unusual. when i made this series and tried to find a market for it no one and i do mean no one would touch it. guess it has to do with the cross. Link to comment
aly_manduca 0 Posted November 15, 2011 I altered my view to see whether or not it would be better centered and I think the way it is is nice. I had to print this out for my class and it does look lvoely in b&w but I think the color is what gives the image such warmth. I'd like to see the other copies/prints if you can post them.
