Elliot, this is beautiful. Your handling of the background is exceptional. Was the background actually this dark or did it require manipulation in post? The only suggestion I would make is to give a little more room on either the top or the bottom. That can be done by changing the crop if this is cropped. Or by cropping slightly from one or the other. Placing the flower lower in the frame will give more of a feeling of looking down on the flower, a very natural occurance. Placing it higher in the frame will give a feeling that the flower is growing taller, maybe more majestic. Being centered, to me, gives a feeling that this is very important and as a photographer you want me the viewer to concentrate on what is centered. However, it doesn’t make as much of a statement about the subject matter itself. There are times when centered is where you want your main subject matter, but most often it is a more interesting photograph if there is a statement about the subject matter.

Thanks Gary the advice is very interesting!! The backround was dark to begin with, I actually had to bring the exposure down for the flower and the background faded aswell.  I will re-crop this and experience the effect you are refering to!
