michaellinder 16,612 Posted August 15, 2011 Excellent street shot. If the subject were holding a beggar's bowl, I might take him to be an incarnation of the Buddha! My best, michael Link to comment
ianward 0 Posted August 15, 2011 Excellent image. I think he may be ok with the food thing for a while. Love the PS work here too, really suits the scene. Link to comment

steveshinn 0 Posted August 15, 2011 If this were in the primate section of the zoo I would say that he looks like a fine old silverback.A wonderful image and commentary on excesses.. on the other hand, he looks happy! Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted August 16, 2011 I too at first glance thought this was a gorilla.. now I really feel sorry for the guy who has a major problem with his weight...well seen candid.....Bravo! Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted August 16, 2011 Hi Bob, this is a wonderful shot. It makes me sad though. This poor man can't be very happy about his appearance. It looks like he has given up on life. He may very well be hungry. Many poor people in North America become obese because they can't afford to buy quality food and have to survive on junk food. Such a sad comment on life.Best wishes, Linda Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted August 19, 2011 I agree with Linda. It's a great shot Bob, and it is a sad statement on society. How many of us overeat and indulge at times? Or how many of us could loose a few pounds. We know nothing about this man, his life, his mental state or even his physical state. Many obese have many other health problems that can help cause this problem. I can throw no stones at him. I tend to wonder what has caused this 'state'. What if he once had a very happy life....had a wife.....children...and lost them in some dire accident. Or had a reputable business or position in one, and lost his job. And it led him to feel worthless when he could not find new employment. Depression can lead to many physical problems. He may be obese, but from this shot he does not look 'dirty'. His jeans although large appear of good quality. And perhaps the day was too hot to wear a shirt. But notice his mustache...it is well trimmed. There's nothing worse than seeing a man who can't be bothered to trim his mustache and food gets caught in it. This man appears to be quite clean. Hopefully he is just obese, and not a Pimp, Drug Dealer, Rapist, Pedophile, a dealer of Porn, the list is endless. And I could be wrong, maybe he is just obese, and has a family and even grandchildren who love him very much. We are a society so quick to 'judge' by appearance rather than care about the man within, who could perhaps use a friend, or even EAR PLUGS to drown out the jearing laughter of the unfeeling. I feel very sad right now.Thankyou for posting Bob, and drawing our attention to this man and more importantly, OURSELVES..................Gail Link to comment

benhuybrechts 0 Posted August 21, 2011 Hi Bob,I see this image has started a bit of discussion on obesity. I will not join this discussion, but I find it great that pictures touches people, and trigger things ... more than just oh wow this is a great picture. Well done,Ben Link to comment
Dana C Doherty 400 Posted August 23, 2011 Bob, I just added this to my list of "Favorites". It is a compelling picture to say the least. As with others of your's I'd love to know everything about the picture: who is this man? where is this man? what is his story? was he aware of you and willing or unaware and could not have cared less?Your mastery of suble tones is now something I will try to incorporate into more of my own efforts. You should do a book and this should be the cover. Thanks,Dana Link to comment

human images 4 Posted July 22, 2012 ah... a bona fide silverback disguised as a citizen... An interesting on the run grab, but what a fantastic man to get to know better, so as to be able to photograph close and intimately, i mean! I believe he be game; i believe he be gentle and willing... Or not! An amazing figure, regardless. Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted November 8, 2013 I find this image to be very sad! What many people don't know is that being overweight is a result often times of not having the means to cook properly for themselves; existing on an inexpensive and starch laden diet. Combine with that, poor health and mobility issues and you have what you see here. He looks so sad and lonely. I like the composition; the muted tones here really add to the overall feeling of loneliness. Excellent photo! Thank you for sharing. :) Link to comment
