heather_boers 0 Posted August 12, 2011 Critique Welcomed! (I used "A" mode, I like the result as it is different, but NOT the settings I would have used...interesting experiment I guess). Thoughts on constructive use of low ISO? I will be going back to the park to shoot this with several different (and more "normal") settings to see what I can learn. Any thoughts welcomed! Pierre Dumas 304 Posted August 12, 2011 Maybe too soft, IE not exactly razor sharp and not enough details!Best regards Heather!PDE Link to comment
heather_boers 0 Posted August 12, 2011 Thanks for your comment Pierre. I think you are right. If I could get the same "look" but at least some focus and detail I bet it would be nicer. Thanks much! Heather Link to comment
mike_palermiti 3 Posted August 12, 2011 Hi Healther,A pretty flower, indeed.Start with ISO 200. ISO 1600 does not develop the richness of color due to several factors, noise being one of them. You provided no Details, so I can not help you any further based upon the camera, lens and settings you did use for this capture. In general, if you stopped down your lens, open it up. It will allow you to use a lower ISO (good thing). If your exposure is too slow, motion can become an issue.Use a tripod, or use a flash.I increased the color presence a bit in this image.Best Regards, Mike Link to comment
heather_boers 0 Posted August 12, 2011 Hi Mike, I tried sending you a message, but I don't think it went through. The older I get the less computer savvy I am! Yeah, when I set the camera at f13 (which was way too high) I caused the camera's automatic feature to choose all the other crazy settings ( I won't elaborate because I don't want anyone to think I chose them on purpose :) ). This time (I'm using the rose as an excuse to go to the park today :) ) I will start with setting the ISO as you suggested at 200 and then a much larger aperture. As far as the photo details...I thought they were here, but they are not. I think I know how to get them in next time, or if not, I will type them out in my comment. I am hoping to get a tripod as my next equipment purchase. Your comment shows that would be a good idea. I love to spend money, I just never have much! I really appreciate your suggestions! DawsonPointers 362 Posted August 12, 2011 Hi Heather:I actually like the softness of this image. The rose is unblemished and colour is beautiful. The thorns are scarry!Regards, John (and Harry) Link to comment
heather_boers 0 Posted August 12, 2011 Hi John, I feel less crazy about liking the "fuzzyness" of the picture, hearing that you like it too. I do want to try to get it a bit more in focus as well though. Give Harry a snuggle for me! Thanks for your input! Heather Link to comment
gregverena 350 Posted August 12, 2011 Heather,This bloom has a lot of potential - interesting shape, color and light. The center is unfortunately out of focus which is disturbing. The colors are all a little off- almost washed out. Don't be afraid of using higher f values - this will give you greater depth of field, ie more sharpness throughout. However, when shooting outside, you will need a lot of light to compensate for the small aperture, and still have the shutter speed fast enough to compensate for any air movement. I tried to improve what you have a little - but it's hard with so little information in the small picture. See what you think. If you have the chance, it's easier to pick the flower and do it inside with more controlled conditions.Keep shooting.Greg Link to comment
