james_oneill 0 Posted May 21, 2003 Exposure and light are perfect, composition couldn't be improved, choice of subject is excellent and timing to catch his concentration is faultless. And it was just shot in the street... Link to comment
vlad po... 1 Posted May 21, 2003 Interesting, where did you take this picture, was it a street musician? This portrait is really excellent. Everything works well, composition, tones, DOF. I join others, great job. We enjoy your music, Bridget. Virtuosity in music, virtuosity in photography they have something in common... Link to comment
drymanphoto 0 Posted May 21, 2003 You can really get a sense of how focused and passionate this man is about playing the violin, from this shot. Link to comment
kevin gulstene 0 Posted May 21, 2003 You have created a very compelling image! I can feel the intensity and focus of this fellow. You've done a great job bringing the viewers focus onto this fellow. The line of the violin, the dark left edge at his shoulder and arm, the distractionless background and the light on his head and hands all lead my attention to his expression. There are aspects of the image which remind me of renaisaince (sp?) painting. All after only a year of photography ... I think you will get a great deal of satisfaction for a long time to come!! Congratulations. Link to comment
bridget_hunt 0 Posted May 21, 2003 ..........I just woke up to more wonderful comments !! Just to tell you a bit more about this photo, I shot this photo on a grey flat day. I went out to take 'interesting' pictures of architecture and the sky was just so boring. We walked along the river embankment in London and there are lots of stalls selling old books. This gentleman was standng right in the middle of all these people looking through the books and playing. The people seemed not to really notice him (a lot of people just ignore street performers). He was so engrossed in his music, at times animated by it and as you can see here - lost in it. I am going to try and find him again, take a few versions of the pictures that I have printed to A4 and give it to him as a present. I am curious to learn more about him, I have a feeling he might live on the street (so framing it might not be a good idea). I will also print out the beautiful comments everyone made about him and give them to him. Thank you to all of you again for your interest, I will have a smile on my face for a long time to come x Link to comment

bob_pictaker 1 Posted May 21, 2003 Bridget this is a very beautiful portrait! This gentleman is clearly passionate about his music and you've captured that feeling wonderfully! You've been doing this for less than a year? Link to comment
bridget_hunt 0 Posted May 21, 2003 I have being taking photographs for about ten months or so, I was using my Dad's old Nikon F before but it was so heavy - most of my pictures were blurred ! I got this Eos 300V because it was nice and light and I could take it for the day and snap away. I think I got lucky...... Link to comment
wogears 186 Posted May 21, 2003 C'mon, were you channelling Julia Margaret Cameron on this one? Really looks like one of hers. Any idea why his bow is upside-down? There are reasons to do this; I am not being critical, just curious . Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 21, 2003 I was in the same place about three weeks ago, but I didn't see this guy anywhere !!! :) Considering that and looking at your photo here, I don't think I could have shot a photo as good as this in my life anyway ... Regards, RB Link to comment

robertbrown 1 Posted May 21, 2003 As all have already said, this is a beautiful, timeless shot. With a little paint, it could be turned into something from the Old Masters, Rembrandt, etc. The diffused light and darkness make the picture: it's as if the violin and musician are bathed in angelic light! Congratulations on this. I hope you can find him and give him the photo. Link to comment
