Great capture Scott, Winston was such a 'good boy'. I've never seen a Mantis in this stance. Good timing on your part!

Kind regards, Gail

Sigh. I think Mike is the guy who can't critique images without having camera and lens data.

Anyway, great shot, not a composite as far as I can tell, and I do composites now and then. This shot reminds me of all the chihuahua vs. elephant jokes. What a patient dog that is, too. With lots of Nose!

Brilliantly creative shot.  My main critiques (more DOF and less shadow on the ear) are already recognized, and so are not a value-add.  I am curious, though, what effect a back light just behind the dog's head may have had - just enough to cast thin highlights on both subjects.  Maybe something to try next time.

Thanks Michael.  Yeah, this picture went blog wild.  That's why there's so many views....blogs linking it back to here.  It sucks when they don't link it back or give me credit, but not much I can do about it....maybe a watermark wouldn't hurt.

Scott,

As like everyone else, my extreme compliments.  And as a dog lover and someone who thinks Labs are just so special it really hits a nerve.  It is, indeed a terrific shot.

Now, I can't hold back nor should I simply because it is ok for my to voice an opinion...

That Mike P. person was way out of line for 2 related reasons:
1. As you said, there was no enquiry or suggestion of a possibility, rather it was stated categorically that you had melded 2 separate images.
2. And this is the, really, bad part... In doing #1, following the 'story' you had given regarding the shot. this person was outright  calling you a liar & implying fraud & deceit on your part.

I'm sorry but, there is no place in the world (or Photo.Net) for people to be rude, insulting, ignorant or display such attitude.

Kudos to you for being so civil in your reaction to such behavior.

Cheers,
Drew

PS:  Well done, Winston!
