Hi Engela,

I like the shot.

I like the composition.

The entire scene appears to have some noise, which is not associated with the elements of the shoe surface itself. While the noise is not high  at ISO 200, it does effect the image contents to some degree.

I have reduced that noise here.

Best Regards,  Mike

Thank you, Mike, for always returning to my work and for the genuine interest that you show (and the help!).

I tried a different trick with the digital program, and I think that is what caused the noise.  The original picture has no noise at all.  I used "diffuse glow", and this is what happened.  In my original shot, the background (a kitchen counter!) was too shiny, and that is why I applied the diffuse glow in the first place.  Guess it backfired on me...

Kind regards

Engela

Hi Englea,

The "Diffuse Glow" did work to do what you wanted. The follow up noise reduction I did just corrected pattern noise that the process created. The bright kitchen counter has be taken care of well.

Often, in image processing, there is more than one step that is required to optimize the results that you seek. I have seen where one process starts a problem, but if that same process was second in line to another process, it works fine. So the order in which you do things is as important as the tools you pick to do the tasks.

Best Regards,  Mike

I wonder what uncle Mike did on that picture, it looks not only with more contrast, but also with clearer texture! I must read what he wrote!

Best regards Engela!

He reduced noise, I should have guessed, he always does that, but the texture decreases that way and it looked to me increased!

Hi Engela,

This might be of help to you as I answer Pierre's inquiry:

Uncle Mike did do "selective noise reduction" on the background pattern noise. The ISO 200 did not furnish much noise, but the tool application that Engela used did create a noise like appearance to the image. So I treated the area with  my tools to reduce that noise. Now, there was a loss in definition, so I did a very moderate form of sharpening, as to improve the image without bringing back the noise that I just removed.

Once the noise was managed, then contrast is a simple thing to adjust.

Often, one process needs to be applied in the correct order to prevent another process from creating conflicts. If not, the issues can quickly become out of control.

Best Regards,  Mike

Thank you so much, Johanna.  Me and my husband do not have any children of our own, but somehow we are always surrounded by them!  My niece, Megan, visits my house almost every day.  Her shoes were left behind and I took this shot on one of the days when she was not around.  The next day she was sitting next to me and immediatly spotted her shoes on PN!

Kind regards,

Engela
