Faces of war - head 01

oliver_indra

Second upload due to lighting reasons. Guess I can not trust my monitor anymore. So:This was recorded in 3:2-mode. Underexposed originally for 0.3 EV to keep details in dark areas, pushed in ps-leves, no gamma-changing. Saturation unmanipulated.

This head was found in the ruins of the residential site in the

background. "Dom Pansionera", thats the name of the building, was

located quite near to the frontline between serb and bosnian troops

during the siege of Sarajevo, 1993-95. This building has been

attacked during the war for many times.

I´d be happy about any comments...

Thx,

Oliver, I'm impressed with the number of thought provoking images you have in your portfolio here and I can see I'm going to be coming back here from time to time for quite a while. In this image, I must be candid that I'm not wild about the positioning of the doll's head but there is no doubt that you have struck a chord with me. Overall, its a very haunting and depressing image, particularly because of having had the chance to travel through this part of the world in the mid 80s before the war. Your capture of this building does a great job of conveying loss: the festive colors of the building speak of a lost era that may never return, making it doubly sad. Overall, I'd say it excellent work that does an excellent job of confronting the viewer with the sad legacy of this horrible event. Well done.

Nice simple detail of what may possibly be an otherwise overly graphic situatuion. The simplicity of the doll's head, symbolizing the death of a human, against a graphical interpretation of destruction. Super nice work.

This picture tells a story and brings about much emotion with only two main elements. On my screen it looks ever so slightly bright.
