Some days I think it adds a nice framing element, some days I don't. I like the idea of the dead tree nestled in the new foliage, but I do think that a little more DOF, to get the rest of the tree in focus and bring out the texture, would have probably worked better. Then again, some days I like the shallow depth of field. (So there you go. ;)

Hi Ed, As a strip of green it's fine, but it's again a bit too much out of focus to my liking. And the same goes for the texture on the tree, which appears to 'move' away from the camera, so that you end up loosing sharpness where it counts. In the details. It's a similar (but less prominent) problem as in the tree picture in PT's folder. So in this respect I prefer your other version. On the other hand, this one is exposed better, with more saturated colours. And the placement of the flower is indeed more effective. Perhaps crop this square from the right side and stop down as much as you can, and you get your winner. Perhaps.
