I wanted to say there is NO MANIPULATION of this photo whatsoever. I dunno why it's not in the info, but there you go.

Superb soft image. I would have cropped the top a hair more, even with the top of the 'fuzz' on the water. The detail of the loose feathers is great. The top of the cranes back might be considered blown out by some, I find it is 'just right'. The head of the crane is perhaps not in focus enough. Top/bottom symetry is very nice.

Ugg, well I cant say I like this photo much. Your sort focus technique should be checked at the door...esp. for wildlife photos. The background at the top is kind of blown and distracting...you should also consider cloning out those branches at the top right and selectively bumping up the saturation and/or color temp to the image. There is nothing wrong with PS'ing an image (welcome the 21'st century) To me it just looks like a missed shot and does not achieve the "soft focus" look you were going after very well at all.

Nice pastel feel to it. I am glad the image is not too sharp, would have taken away the painting like feel it has.

The soft feeling makes it much better than countless sharp birdie pics.

I went back and redid it, cropped the top a bit and I think I like the new one better. It's in my gallery now. Athough this shot captures the soft early morning light realistically, the new one I think is punchier and yet still holds some of the same qualities.
