J.W.

This is a nice BW portrait.

The background and  the interesting patterned rock are additional components making this a good composition.

The young lady is quite attractive, too.

Best Regards,  Mike

So cute pose and look of the beautiful young girl! The environment is greatly presented with shallow DOF thus concentrating on the cute girl! This picture proves that the beauty of the face and body doesn't have to be shown as nude!

Best regards J.W.!

This is a nice portrait...her pose is more natural and relaxed...though shooting straight in to her skirt line obviously causes issues that you've handled...though this is a bit distracting.  I really like the B&W treatment here...the tones and textures are great.  I wonder though if this would look better cropped closer to focus more on her face.  Lastly as in the other image I critiqued earlier the background is somewhat distracting...the trees coming out of her head in particularly...if you have a fast lens I would recommend shooting at max apperture to blur the background...if not just be careful of things in the background.

J.W.,

Katie is a cutie with a lovely expression. Her skin tone looks good. You have focused quite well on her eyes. Her make-up looks very nice. The contrast looks good. I like the soft lighting on her face. The backlight provides good hair highlights and a nice rim light down her right shoulder and upper arm. It helps to separate her from the background. She has good eye contact with the camera (viewer).

Even though the area between her legs is in deep shadow, it just doesn't look like a very ladylike pose.

It is usually not a good idea to pose your subject facing straight on to, or away from, the camera. This is not a very feminine pose. Showing your subject’s widest areas (shoulder to shoulder or hip to hip) makes those areas appear wide. Your subject will appear thinner and more feminine, graceful and elegant if turned at an angle to the camera. The lines you see from an angle have more apparent motion, interest and grace. You usually do not want to have your subject turned 90 degrees to the camera. This can make the head look unsupported. Generally, it looks best to angle your subject somewhere around 45 degrees.

The background is quite neutral, but the tones are very close to the tones of her body and her top. If you would have chosen a darker background she would have stood out from it better. You don't want to position her so that the trees behind her appear to be coming out of her head.

It would have been nice to have more dominant catchlights.

Your composition is right heavy. You should crop some off the left side for better left and right compositional balance.

Nice shot,

Mark
