This stranger to my garden arrived with a flock of White Parrots,

obviously in search of food. ( I put seed out for the Parrots.) I didn't

recognise him as being a native to Australia and searching my reference

books on Australian birds confirmed this. A search through Wickipedia

confirmed he is a male Rose Ringed Parakeet (psittacula Krameri)

found in India and Africa. A long way from home....I can only assume he

has escaped from an aviary and hope he survives having found

himself "out in the cold" so to speak.

I would appreciate any feedback on a) my photograph and b) the bird

itself.

Thanks

Louise

...... what a neat little chappie. Thanks for your research into this one, and yes, he is a long way from home. Your image indicates that he finds security in the bushes, unlike the brazen White Parrots, which could indicate that he is new to his "freedom". Hope he stays around for you.

In terms of the image..... you were lucky to find a hole through the foliage and it is unfortunate that the heavy shade reduces his apparent colourful plumage.

Hopefully your next sighting will be in brighter circumstances.

Nevertheless a good shot and nice story.

Thanks Grayham, your comments are always appreciated. Yes, it was a shame that it was an overcast day, I have been watching out for him the past couple of days, but so far he has been elusive!

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

You are one Lucky person to have had this chap all the way from Africa in your garden. I live in South Africa and have the Blue male as a pet.The are very interesting birds and if you lucky to buy a young one you can actually hand rear them which in turn makes them very tame. They are very good talkers. Used to have the same one as in you capture years ago and he used to go to town with me on my shoulder,to the banks, supermarkets, etc. Very affectionate birds as well. If you see that fellow in your garden again try talk to him maybe his master did......Hello Coco,Polly or whatever and he might even respond and stay around. Cute and thanks for sharing your Moment with us. Regards from SAfrica

Hi Joanna

Thanks for sharing your experience with one of these delightful birds. This one has returned daily, but as yet I haven't been able to tempt him down from the tree. Don't worry I will continue.....!

regards

Louise
