I really like the soft light in the forest. The bright spots in the background are a bit distracting. It also seems a bit under exposed. It looks as though you were standing up when you took the shot. Getting lower would emphasize the depth more.  Here's a crop and some adjustments I made in Lightroom; couldn't resist. Cheers.

Steve,

Thanks for the input.  One of the problems I have shooting wide angle is the desire to put everything in the frame.  I do need to start looking at tighter framing.  I am going to play with some crops on that image.  I like the crop you did.

Also, getting rid of the light spots in the trees not only improves the composition in my mind but allows the exposure to be raised without clipping those spots even more.

I had my tripod raised pretty much all the way when I shot that.  I need to experiment with shooting from a lower angle.  That would have been a great perspective on that scene.  I love the wide angle, but have a lot to learn about using it.

Russell, lovely image, agree with the technical discussion above.  The water flow has been captured perfectly here.

How about making a set of waterproof boots for your tripod and taking your shoes off in order to get the lens nice and close to the flow.  Not always easily done, I know, however, this image would greatly benefit from a more dramatic perspective.  If you want to use the full width of your wide lens then let's see some foreground subject matter much closer to the lens.

Matthew,

Getting in the water would have been an excellent idea.  In fact, I am now noticing  several shots from that trip that would be much better if I had used that approach.  That water was cold, but the day was warm.  It would have felt nice for a short period of time.  Thanks for the input.
