Jim,

Interesting image capture.

The lack of sharpness is probably due to the shutter speed used and the F-stop setting.

For a 300mm lens, 1/60 second is too slow for hand held work.

More importantly , the use of F/11 did not use the full potential of the lens to provide a sharper image. The use of f/5.6 would have provided a sharper image and provided you a 1/250 second shutter speed (better).
