critter 0 Posted May 10, 2003 Shot with 2 soft boxes and reflectors to give edging. Any thoughts welcomed. Link to comment
jimknowles 0 Posted May 17, 2003 Me thinks perhaps you've gone a little high on contrast here, otherwise, it's an intersting attempt to tell a part of a very naughty story. Very naughty. Link to comment
critter 0 Posted May 17, 2003 Thank you James. I'm a bit of a whore when it comes to contrast. I mean it is called Black and White. I don't see the word grey mixed in there... If anyone cares, the final title for this image is "switch" . It is indeed a naughty and fun little story implied in the crossed fingers. Fetish is fun, despite all the anguished cliche. And I'm actually damn proud of this image for two reasons - 1) It's the first time I've actually materialized an image exactly how I imagined it and 2) I nailed the lighting - brought out the edging of hips and thighs and caught the glow in the handcuffs. Black on black with gobs of white is a tough thing to shoot. Maybe someday I'll dapple with the grey areas... Link to comment
joelcollins 0 Posted May 23, 2003 Love it. Holding the key to the handcuffs in the other hand completely changes the photo. I'd like the see more light on the outer edges of the legs -- the black pants tend to fade into the black background. Link to comment
critter 0 Posted May 24, 2003 Thanks Joel. I actually wanted the legs to fade into black to pop the handcuffs more and draw the eye towards the hips. Link to comment
craig_allyn_rose 0 Posted May 27, 2003 Erotic - not my usual cup of tea (or sadism for that matter - =8^) However, this image is compelling for its symmetry and excellent use of light. The bunching of the latex on the model's back is eye-catching as is the way she has her fingers crossed to hold the cuffs and the key. Well done! Craig A. Rose // www.carosephoto.com Link to comment
brian_b. 0 Posted June 3, 2003 Hi Critter,I am new to photonet, and I was going through some other photographers listings. I came across your listing and I really liked what I saw. I like your work a lot and I like the "how" and "why" you are creating your images. I am so new here I really don't have many of my own images up yet, but I just wanted to say keep up the great work man! I will definately drop by from time to time and check out your newer stuff! All the best!Surfinbird Link to comment
berj_bannayan 0 Posted June 4, 2003 Critter, You are right to be very proud of this image. As others have said before, it's eye-catching, sexy and evocative. My only nit is the way the model has crossed the fingers of her left hand (the one with the key). Strangely enough I noticed something wrong with it right away -- the middle finger is crossed over the index.. but most people (AFAIK) cross the index over the middle (like the model has done with her left hand). Anyway.. just a silly thing. Have you played with any other compositions/croppings of this image that didn't have the hands and behind centred in the frame? I'd be curious to see what that looks like (by either exposing more of the shoulders or more of the legs). Link to comment
lissahatcher 0 Posted June 7, 2003 I almost find the fact that you can see her butt distracting ? which is wierd for me I think it disracts from the message you are giving with her hands .... but over all I like this print nice light nice tones nice job cropping .... well presented ... good job Link to comment
critter 0 Posted June 8, 2003 explain more..the glimpse of ass is integral to the switch naure of the hands message. Do explain... Link to comment
darrus_pattle 0 Posted June 13, 2003 Critter, I think youve done a wonderful job here! You have really used the light well to capture the "creases" on the back. i think the faint lighting rim around the hips really adds to the overall effect. You should be very proud! Link to comment
critter 0 Posted June 14, 2003 Thanks again, all who commented. Berj, yes, I tried a bunch of different framings. Oddly, this was what I imagined and it worked. I like that the butt is dead center. The eye is drawn to the dangled cuff and the ripple of costume. (that persnickity rule of thirds.) This makes the key switch of it all the more understated and ironic because, well, the ass is dead center and obvious. And somehow, that was the impulse that imagined this image. I ike that the clues are framed traditional, while the obvious joke is dead centered and hiding in plain sight. To darrus - yes I do. I scan a 4x6 test print way too large. Spend hours removing dust specks and then print it out 13x19 on my new epson printer. Good anal fun. And wicked in the feel of shuffling through my obscenely large and weighty porfolio. james_oneill 0 Posted June 14, 2003 I cross my fingers the way she has, they won't go the other way. My wife says she can't do it my way. Critter: you've given your reasons for being proud of it and I think you're spot on. Link to comment
