I really like this.  The low contrast between the water, hills, and sky sets the boats apart so effectively.  I wish I could see this without the land that enters on the right side.  In a way, I feel it might be competing with the boats for attention by drawing the viewer's eye over in that direction, and it also adds a bit more complexity to the scene that might be better left more simple.  Not sure -- just a thought (I'm trying to imagine it in my mind's eye, and that's sometimes hard to do).

Andrea, of the two, I really like the second (without the land on the right).  The boats are now distinctly different from anything else in the frame, and that makes their presence special in some way -- it makes them alone on this large body of water, sailing (or motoring!) their way into uncharted unknowns.  The fact that the distant hills fade away into the bright sun on the left only adds to this feeling.  It's a very striking composition.
