Doug, this image is no where near as nice as first image, the main reason it's not, would be here you lack definition in both b/g and also flowers. where in first one definition was really nice. i like how you treat a flower image like a portrait, i also do the same. if you had part of your flowers here exiting the frame, that to me would be like a portrait with half a head, or arms cut off. working with these type of shots in flowers its a really good idea comparing to a portrait.
