Anna's Portrait #2

jim craft

Natural light. No fill flash used, but perhaps needed. Converted to B&W and diffusion applied in PS. No cropping.

Late afternoon light. No fill flash, but one probably should have

been used to light up her eyes. Thoughts?

Very nice!

I'm curious, what technique you use to apply diffusion to your image in Photoshop? Is that the same as using a soft filter?

Under "Filter > Distort > Diffusion ..." you can soften the image. After doing so you can "Tune" it by pulling down the Filter menu again and going to "Adjust Diffusion" (or something like that - I can't quite recall). It has a similar effect as a Soft Focus filter. I shoot without a filter, which gives me freedom to post-process as I like.

James, thanks for you comments. This was shot in the first ten minutes so there is some tenseness in her demeanor perhaps. I have another of her I would like you to look at if you have a chance. "Anna having fun" was about two hours later. Let me know if you see a difference.

Sometimes I just love infrared type photos. Have you considered infrared portraits? It would give you this type of result with far less manipulation.

Since I'm just getting my feet wet in portraiture I'm still exploring. I will consider IR films in the future, thanks for the suggestion!
