semacc 0 Posted April 28, 2011 Like the shot. But I get the feeling the foreground is obscuring something more interesting going on in the background.Nice shot. Regards, JMacC Link to comment
kani 0 Posted April 28, 2011 Hi john, I understand what you mean. Nevertheless, I did try to create here two backgrounds, the first is the rock behind the tree to show the branches and the flowers of the tree. If the rock wasn't there, the tree will be mixed with the other details of the land. Therefore, the rock works as a separator from the rest of the land. The tree stays in the foreground and the branchs indicates different directions to the top where there are the top of the rocks on the second level. The second background is the sky and although it doesn't have very attractive colours as red, pink, purple, it makes contrast with the yellow rock in the foreground. The big rock I did place on the rock near the horizon is called Uchisar which was used as troglodytes until 1970s. I prefered to photograph it as shaded because of the surrounding sky and as a balance between the foreground element which is the tree enlightened and the background element the Uchisar rock in the shade. That was my compositional thought when I made this photo. But, I have respect your thoughts and appreciate it. Thank you for looking. Link to comment

kani 0 Posted May 4, 2011 Pierre, this is a very vast land. There are few cities and many villages in this region. It is a very attractive land thanks to its natural specialities and multicultural social life. The land was formed by the lavas of the volcanos surrounding it and was used hundreds of years for habitation purpose and even as an hiding area for the first christians of the region. The locals used to live in these rocks, called as troglodytes, by carving and shaping it as a house, until the late 1970s. Beside all that, this region is hosting every year more than 150 different kind of butterflies. Some of them are unique species. I have been there many times when I was guiding french tourist groups as a professional guide but I have never had the time to photograph this area in those years. I made this photo during my last trip to this region as a photographer. The weather was not suitable to realize my thoughts but it is a wonderful feeling even only to be in this magical land.
