donpaulson 0 Posted May 6, 2003 Thanks for asking about the photo colors. The colors in this image accurately portray the original slide. The only Photoshop modification was an increase of about 10 points in Saturation. The light was low and shining through the wave, making the emerald color. Link to comment
john_brady 0 Posted May 6, 2003 The amazing color and the effect of panning the camera make a fabulous photograph. Link to comment
george_wright2 0 Posted May 6, 2003 Wow!! I Love it - very original use of panning. Excellent colour balance and saturation. This is good work - well done!! Link to comment
roberto4 0 Posted May 6, 2003 fine panning effect, specially the top of the wave remains sharp Link to comment
k._s._lovington 0 Posted May 7, 2003 I guess, if anything, I wish that the wave on the left was slightly more toward the center-but thats nitpicking. This is a beautiful and original attempt at panning. The colors turned out fantastic. Almost seems like it is begging for some type to go in the bottom right corner. I'd put it up for stock and keep developing the idea. cheers Link to comment
tim_hardy 0 Posted May 7, 2003 Who would ever have thought of panning a wave? What a brilliant effect, well observed and executed. 7/7 Link to comment
jimmcnitt 0 Posted May 7, 2003 Silky smooth and strikingly original! Do you remember the shutter speed? Link to comment
donpaulson 0 Posted May 7, 2003 Sorry, Jim, I don't recall the exact shutter speed. I do remember thinking that I'll be lucky to have anything to turn out. I believe the shutter speed I used was about 1/30 of a second, which is quite slow with a 300MM focal length. The camera was mounted on a tripod, however, which stabilized the camera in the vertical position. I took several shots. Most were "round" filed. But I did get lucky in that one shot turned out as I had envisioned - one more than I would have gotten had I not tried... Link to comment
mauricio alcaraz carbia 0 Posted May 7, 2003 My kind of favorite photo! Very well done. Link to comment
jimknowles 0 Posted May 11, 2003 Big fan of movement in stills - especially when done in camera! I know some people don't get it sometimes, but bro, I love it! Beautiful light, can almost feel the ocean mist. Great thing about photography - when you're willing to hang ten, sometimes you catch a good ride! Link to comment
jeffmather 0 Posted May 26, 2003 This is a great image: nice balance, placement, and tone. It's so hard to do this right when panning. Well done! Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted June 3, 2003 Superb! Do you know the painting of the american painter Albert Bierstadt titled "the Emerald Sea" ? You have almost make the same picture. Link to comment
gabi_reichert 0 Posted June 22, 2003 Absolutely perfect! A picture I would like to take - one day:-)I like the color, the composition - everything.Gabi Link to comment

laurence_smith2 0 Posted July 8, 2003 I was with Don that day. I took a lot of shots, but they were "ho hum". I thought the waves were beautiful, too, but watching Don out there on the rocks, fooling around with the angles and moving all over the place...I thought he was wasting his time. I should have known better, as usual! He captured the movement and the color perfectly, and knew which lens to use, and how to use it. Link to comment
mgvaughan.com 0 Posted August 21, 2003 Vibrant and silky shot- like poetry in motion. Nice portfolio as well. Link to comment
joe_ho 0 Posted September 26, 2003 This is fantastic! The colors are gorgeous. The foreground has this velvet quality to it, almost dreamlike. I have trouble with the white water/foam at the very top of the picture. It balanced out the whites in the bottom, but at the same time distract a little from the rolling white waves. Link to comment
leopoldo 0 Posted September 27, 2003 Don what a great capture. The light green fading into white on blue is great. The soft focus attained by the slow shutter just enhanced the mood. I do not mess with other peoples work, but I copied your picture twice and shifted them horizontally merging them together and it turned out almost biblical... the parting of the sea!!. If you like to see the result, I will send to you by email. Once again ... BEAUTIL APPEASING SHOT Leo Garcia / Venezuela Link to comment
