john_fetcho 3 Posted April 20, 2011 This is the sort of shot all sports photographers would love to take. Is the shot just a result of panning? I'm really curious as to how you were able to keep the one rider so sharp (and the remainder of the riders out of focus/blurred) when the rider is coming towards more than crossing in front of you. Was any sort of flash used? Thanks and outstanding shot. Link to comment
cliffb 0 Posted April 20, 2011 John: Yes, this is the result of a slow shutter speed (1/40 sec. with 30mph subjects) and panning while focusing on the lead rider. No flash was used; but, a bit of rear curtain, fill flash may have made for an even sharper face on the lead rider. Link to comment

cliffb 0 Posted April 20, 2011 Thank you, Chantelle. However, there is minimal post-processing to this one - just curves, color and sharpening. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 20, 2011 Great shot, Cliff. I like the sharpness of the first runner and the difference to all the other drivers. It gives us a feeling of the action at that time. Very nice indeed. Link to comment
