Subtle it ain't, but this is certainly an eye-catching and striking image. A great statue and great effect, but do the two go together? To me this plasma energy rippling all over the scene speaks of power and drama, so perhaps a statue of an angel with wings bearing a sword might work better - illustrating divine power and vengeance? This statue's mournful repose surely calls for a quieter, more sympathetic relief? But as it's got me thinking along supernatural lines, I can see this image illustrating Lot's wife being turned into a pillar of salt by the hand of God. Good stuff. May I ask how you produced this effect?

Daamn Jim! I'm definitely feelin' that! it's like you took a grieving person and opened a window into her mind in which you can see her neurons firing with all the profundity of her emotional experience. very, very emotive!

Oh yes, I hadn't thought of it like that. It does work rather well at illustrating the mind shattering nature of heavy grief, as well as the petrifying effect it can have on the soul. Great symbolism. Forget about the angel posing with a sword, Jim; this is even better than I first thought!

Very powerful and emotional! I like the way the shattered light does not penetrate the weeping statue, definitely giving a three-dimensional effect.

Jim I saw this a few days ago and your moving comments. I am quite without words to describe this wonderful tribute to your friend.

An absolutely stunning image that displays grief like I've felt it myself--your commentary re: the inspiration is as moving as the photo.

My heartfelt thanks for all the kind comments on "Grief."

Ironically, I almost didn't post this image -- for artistic reasons, not personal -- but am now very glad that I did.

The original version, attached above, had been sitting on my hard drive for sometime. I was satisfied with the concept of external turmoil reflecting inner anguish, but couldn't seem to make it work visually.

A couple of nights ago, I revisted the image in the company of a bottle of Yellow Tail Merlot (an inexpensive but very tasty Australian wine) and sometime before hitting the dregs, hit on the idea of the blue duotone and tight crop.

Thanks again,

Peace -- Jim

My heart feels heavy when I see this image... your addition of the effects magnify the emotional response by the viewer. Well done.

Great execution and originality. Jim, I bet you're one of those people who don't remember the 60's. I haven't seen anything like this since at least 1969.

And photoshop doesn't even give you flashbacks. :-)

Yellow Tail Merlot you said...!? I'm french but I would make an entorse to froggy patriotism and buy australian considering the result of this potion! I am not really enthusiastic on many purely PS generated images, nor on pictures of statues (although I posted some here!) but this one, in addition to the story we can imagine behind it, is very powerful and moving. Choice of blue is a great choice, it reinforces the feeling of solitude and coldness.
