Beautiful! Images from this angle usually don't work but you got the shot at the right moment when the head was sideways. The out of focus branch on the top right (and maybe also the one behind the one he/she's sitting on) is a minor distraction. Lovely shot with beautiful colors and contrast and perfect focus and depth of field.

A very impressive shot with beautiful colours, lighting and details, Bill!

Wonderful image, very refreshing to view. Your technique with this image has given it an artistic, spring pastels feel, without it looking like a greeting card. Perfect pose, again-not what we are accustomed to seeing for this type of bird. About as perfect as one can get, if you consider stepping outside the realm of generally accepted techniques. An image to be proud of. This rates 7 for me, I can't find anything to improve upon here.

Beautiful work Bill,my apologies, I do not visit you nearly enough, and your love of birds translates itself into every image. Carefully edited and always beautifully and aesthetically presented for each image. You share with us many birds that we otherwise would not see in our neighborhoods and with such beautiful detail....thankyou.

This being said, this image is lovely.  We do have Cardinals where I live but I have not had the opportunity to get into the woods and go looking for them. Wonderful detail in the plummage and this one has such a gentle appearance on it's face. I always love your 'DOF'S'...always so soft and suited to the scene.  I will try harder to get back more often. Thankyou for sharing this image with us, and for your love of 'our' North American Birds. Most respectfully, Gail
