Sunrise, Port Douglas

This image was taken in December, which is a fairly wet season in

north Queensland. During our stay in Port Douglas, the sky was quite

often obscured by clouds, so spectacular sunsets or sunrises were

fairly rare. The morning that this photo was taken, was an exception.

As you can see, I was standing quite close to the water, probably 5 m

to 10 m. I was a bit nervous knowing that there were some BIG, BAD

crocodiles out there, lurking beneath the water. But I lived to tell

the tale. :-)

Very, very well done, Ralph.  Nice control of the shadows and light.  Was this a single shot or composite?  It does appear to be slightly rotated clockwise.

It was a single exposure. I used 2 stop ND Grad filter (or may be it was 3 stop - can't be sure now) to control the dynamic range.

Regarding the picture being rotated, you actually may be right. It appears to be a bit tilted. Which surprises me because: a) I could swear that I used a level mounted on a shoe-mount and b) I missed it in post-production. I guess, I must be getting old  :-). Thanks for pointing this out.

Beautiful image Ralph.  I really like the blue/magenta in the sky and the greens in the water/foliage.  My only nit is the vignette is a bit strong for my taste.
