Colorado: Arvada: Our Backyard: North Cottonwood Tree: Steroidal Fox Squirrel

fred_j._lord

This Fox Squirrel sat on a branch in the cottonwood next to our back deck for nearly an hour. It seemed to be dozing and just generally not too alert in the middle of the afternoon. We were worried that it might be ill and considered steps to have it checked. Half an hour later it sat up, shook itself and took off into the neighbors yard and started harrassing the dog there. I guess it was just resting. It doesn't seem to worry about our cat or us walking right up to it so I'm assuming someone has been feeding it.As you can see by the catchlight in its eye, I used a flash fill as the sun was behind it.

Impossibly huge squirrel has been on a rampage. Small dogs, large cats and innocent children beware! This vicious

arboreal rodent has been known to leap screaming from trees overhead onto those unsuspectingly passing below.

Possessed of unusual size and strength this creature is suspected of hanging around the home of the local champion

bodybuilder and rummaging through her pharmaceutical discards in search of newer and stronger anabolic serums. One

terrified local resident discovered a hollow tree full of hypodermic needles and discarded bottles of both legal and illicit

bodybuilding drugs. The squirrel has been observed to fly into towering rages if denied peanuts or other goodies in the

local park. One neighborhood pit bull now refuses to leave the house under any circumstances. If you see this squirrel,

please contact the local chapter of Humans Urging Normal Typical Squirrels not Marauders (H.U.N.T.S.M.). Youll be glad

you did!

You can joke all you want to, Fred, but if I ever encounter that brute he can have anything he wants. When someone with a look like that says "your money or your life" it's best to believe him.

I have been talking with the Danish government and The Giant Fox Squirrel is from now on not allowed to cross the Danish borders .. you will just have to keep them over there. Great photo.

You might alert the coastal authorities as this animal may also be quite capable of swimming the width of the Atlantic to get to Denmark.

That is one scary looking squirrel. Good you had that 400mm lens to keep you at a safe distance. The red-eye catch lights makes it even more menacing looking!

Actually, this rodent was much less prepossessing when it wasn't flexing and flaunting its overdeveloped musculature. The redeye was pretty terrifying but as it turns out, the animal was merely showing off for us.

We got our cat a catsitting videotape to watch. Every time the squirrel segment comes on she gets up and leaves. That'll tell you how traumatized she is with this monster.
