California Quail

This is a great photo.  I really like pattern of the background against the quail.  Nice!

It's been awhile since I've seen a California Mountain Quail.

In any case, this is a beautiful bird, and you've done a wonderful job of capturing it with good lighting, details, DOF and great colors!

I know from experience how quick they are to flush! To get close enough to photograph would definately be a challenge.
