It is difficult to give a shot like this normal color but I gave it a try.  Using curves I put in the RGB numbers that I felt would be realistic for this scene.  Move the eye dropper around to study the info palette to see the difference.  I used the history brush to return the background color to half of what it was--selected only the background and further darkened in curves.  I history brushed the eyes, teeth, and teashirt v 50% back to the original.  There are other ways to do this as well.  Post-production is a good thing but avoiding trouble in the first place saves time.  I hope this helps.  Good luck.
