The weather was absolutely dreadful, wind, rain and very cold. THe

image was shot in color originally, but lacked drama and somber mood

that the rainy weather evoked in me at the time.

This is simply excellent in B&W.  I'm guessing that you used HDR (judging by the "look" of the clouds).  How close am I?

You are right on.  9 exposure HDR shot 2/3 of a stop apart.  Here is the original color image.
