The only silverback and current leader of Melbourne Zoo’s lowland

gorilla family . Some of you may remember him for his famous son Mzuri

who was born at Melbourne zoo some time ago. Rigo is a 40yo Western

lowland gorilla recently reintegrated into the family

Excellent shot of this Silverback Art. Such fascinating creatures. Impressive editing, great timing in capturing his expression, "Daddy" appears to have 'serious business' on his mind!  Cheers for now, Gail

You have captured his attitude very well, it is like he took one of the pretty flowers... snacked on it... and is hoping someone or thing doesn't like it. Nice image.

I have said before that you are very good at humanising animals. Perhaps this beast is beyond humanisation but the photograph of him is rather good to say the least.

LOL, Pierre. David, you said it so well. There is something special about the way these animals are presented so that it easy to empathize with them, see them (accurately) as feeling, thinking and social creatures that are yes, so close to us.

Well done, Art- this is a great one also.  Definitely makes him appear like a regular guy.  And after all, there are some humans that are much scarier beasts than this gorilla.

... and you have said THAT so very well Anne. Thank you to you and everyone for your thoughts. There's more to these beautiful animals than meets the eye and although I can't help but wish they were wild and free, the existence of zoos allows for US to capture something special in them. That's all I can hope for

Great picture and excellent post-editing. Considering that most of your "wild" animals come from Melbourne Zoo it is really amazing what you achieve. You should give us all a course in artistic PS-techniques. Do you want to reveal some of your secrets?

Best regards Per.
