javedrassi 3 Posted April 23, 2003 I accidently deleted the photo, and reposting it, thanks for all of your comments. Link to comment
javedrassi 3 Posted April 23, 2003 Here is the original without the effect, if someone cares to see it. Link to comment
pradeep satyaprakash 0 Posted April 23, 2003 Her expression and head tilt blends well into the puzzle look you are trying to work here. I like this version more than the original because your trick actually adds to the picture. Link to comment
scott bulger 0 Posted April 24, 2003 This looks different than the typical "basketweave" efect with PS. Looks like you made your own strips and manually wove them together and rephotographed them. Either way it was achieved, I'm not a big fan of this "effect" has it appears highly cliche and/or kitschy. The original portrait looks sensitive, well lit, and nicely printed (whether digital or analog). I think it would have been very nice in its original format. As everyone always says, it's not the technique, it's the end result. Link to comment
dusty_crandall 0 Posted April 24, 2003 I don't know what scott is talking about! I think this is a wonderfull photograph! The way she is leaning and how you did the weave adds to eachother. I hope to see more from you! Link to comment
patsy_latscha 0 Posted April 25, 2003 I like this effect very much, beautiful portrait before the effect as well. I would love to know the basics of hoow you did this. You might want to consider posting this on dpreview.com>forums>retouching, there is a lot of art techniques shared there, the "retouching" name is somewhat misleading because photo art is the main substance but let me warn you everybody will go nuts and want to know how you did it, they share very freely and help each other on that site, the best site you could ever join in my opinion. bens 0 Posted April 25, 2003 Bravo! Bravo! this is a 20, a 200, I am speechless. The weaving, the coloring, the lighting, really excellent. the special effect adds to the photo substantially (I looked at the original shot). Thank you for showing the way. Link to comment
eric_hammond 0 Posted April 25, 2003 How meticulous. No effect in PS will just create this. (if there is, I would like to know where!) You definitely spent some time working on this and it really pays off. Very nice. Link to comment
gregg_johnson 0 Posted April 25, 2003 This portrait is both aesthetically pleasing and original. I can't stop looking at it! Thanks. Link to comment
ian_burgess1 0 Posted April 25, 2003 nice work...I love images that you have to tear your eyes away from after a few minutes rather than seconds....great idea, tone, original capture, and PS work....I know this is harder than you've made it look :-) Link to comment
paul_aylett1 0 Posted April 25, 2003 In PS - Original photo in one layer, a photo of the woven material on a second layer - blend mode changed from 'normal' to ??? (darken or luminosity? - play around). The dark squares between the weave then selected and blacked out? This is just a guess - forgive me if I'm mistaken. As for the finished product I think it's excellent - very striking, very original. Well done indeed. Link to comment
alandersen 0 Posted April 25, 2003 Very nice portrait, and I like the settings you used for the Gimp's (www.gimp.org) weave script-fu. Link to comment
javedrassi 3 Posted April 25, 2003 I did not use Gimp, whatever that is, this was done using photoshop, and a filter made by 3rd party for PS. Link to comment
ampoy31 0 Posted April 25, 2003 this effect, if done manually by hand, looks very meticulous and painstaking. i achieved the same effect using Alien Skin plugin for ps. nice work though. Link to comment
alandersen 0 Posted April 26, 2003 Javed, Gimp, Photoshop... Aside from one being free and the other costing money they both do the same thing. I was not criticising you, I just jumped to the mistaken conclusion that the Gimp was used, for I could duplicate the image exactly using that software. The exercise was fun, and it taught me how to better use that effect, for which I thank you! Link to comment
javedrassi 3 Posted April 26, 2003 You are very welcome Al, and thanks for sharing, I used the Alien skin's "Eyecandy" weave filter, cause it has controls, and you can adjust the size of the weaves. Note, you are welcome to criticise me all you like, as long as its constructive, I dont mind. :o) Link to comment
clanbuster_studio 0 Posted April 26, 2003 I don't care how u do it. Using any 3rd party plug in or do it yourself. This is really good. Good job. I like it Link to comment
chrisspracklen 0 Posted April 26, 2003 I've said it before, any work of art is one man's meat and another man's poison - it's all so subjective. For me, this is meat. I've not been into photography for long, but I haven't seen anything quite like it. Personally, I can't fault it. Excellent stuff! Link to comment
