murphymj4803 0 Posted January 26, 2011 Thank you for your comments and critique. Ya, I know this is my second rendition of this photo. A good friend here on P/N suggested tossing the "Port-o-John" brown matte frame and simply let the photo stand on it's own. Link to comment
jim_j2 9 Posted January 26, 2011 Michael,When viewing this image, . . . "it makes me want to work my way down the less obstructed path." For me, anyways, it would be to see what other photographic opportunities might present itself. For other's, well I don't know what this composition may provide them. It could be better if it had a more defined subject matter I suppose. It's very different in regards to containing a "defined subject matter" compared to most all of your images in your gallery.I personally like the subtle color tones, the feeling of "not knowing whats ahead" and the overall "typical/usual Winter woodlands scene." But feel it lacks in subject and is "busy" without drawing the eye to any specific details. The previous posting just simply had "too bold" a frame. Possibly some framing could help. It's nice scenery, but maybe just "too common" for most observers. Or, "possibly I'm just not getting it!"I would consider it as "Average" rating wise.Regards,Jim j. murphymj4803 0 Posted January 26, 2011 Thanks Jim for your solid analysis of my less than clear winter wetland shot. The lack of any precise subject or point of interest is what I was after. I found myself asking the question, what to focus on in a swamp or wetland in the winter? Not much, I was freezing my ass off and saw this outcropping of red color and thought maybe this is interesting? I eventually meandered my way back to my car and then the city and finally a hot cup of coffee. Again, thanks Jim for stopping by. Link to comment
jim_j2 9 Posted January 26, 2011 Oh good! Then I'd say you accomplished what you were after! And, I'm relieved & happy to know that my "thoughts" were somewhat "on track!"I'm still somewhat uncomfortable at this critiquing and rating stuff, but feel that I have gained some helpful insight by the comments others have made to my own stuff.Best regards,Jim j. paulpluskwik 0 Posted January 26, 2011 Michael, I agree with the other critique . I love winter landscapes and really enjoyed the work in your portfolio, but I aggree that this is a very average photo lacking a strong composition for this time of yr., color and lighting. Some times how it looks in person and a persons intention is not always how it shows up. I would not give up on this spot, I could see it as a stronger photo in the spring with some water in the low area, or in the fall with some fall color to the trees and brush. so maybe try it at diff times of the yr and see what comes the best. I enjoyed your portfolio, with lots of great photo in wide variety of areas. Take care and I look forward to seeing more of your work. Link to comment
