john_minelli 0 Posted January 25, 2011 The focus on the eyes is great. For my taste I feel the DOF is a bit too shallow for the subject, and the crop too tight. When shooting wildlife you want as fast a shutter speed as possible. I/100 sec. is quite slow for a shot such as this. You could have bumped up the ISO to somewhere between 200-500 which would have allow you to shoot at an aperture a couple of stops higher. That way the owls whole head would be in focus. As it is now the tufts and side are blurry, which IMHO detract some from the impact of the image. Just my 2 cents, others may feel completely different. Still it's a very nice shot.... congrats!John Link to comment
twgomez 0 Posted January 28, 2011 John has a point about the tufts. However, I rather like it as it is...almost like a portrait of the animal-different than the usual, in a good way I think. You could expirement with a pano style long crop of just the eyes/beak as well, might be interesting. It looks as if the bird is saying "Back off the frogs are mine!". Very nice. Link to comment
