...under challenging conditions where the contrast exceeds the dynamic range of your cameras sensor. To answer your question, I would have bracketted this shot and then used the HDR pro in CS5 - with a little practice you can create images with more detail that don't look overprocessed. HDR processing can work wonders for these lovely old church interiors where you are trying to capture the beauty of the brightly lit stained glass and the texture of the masonry.  If you just have a single exposure you might see what you can do with CS5 HDR toning (Image, Adjustments, HDR toning) - you can make many adjustments including Detail. Bill, the composition of this is really strong and the lighting is great. I really like the pattern of the leading in the windows. For me the textures work well with the subtle variation in the color of the stone.
