This is an excellent shot. Increased depth-of-field would be a plus, but isn't essential since I think the slight blur is also pleasing.

I think what sets this photo aside from other flower macros is how it blends from the edges (painting-like) into the sharpness of a photograph - more depth of field would destroy that special feeling - very nicely balanced!

I agree with previous comment, very nice play with DOF. This shot is much better, than many other flowers on photo.net which collected higher ratings.

Really like this image as it stands. I do wander what it would have looked like with more DOF. But, I doo like the soft effect.

The only problem to me is the color. I'd either trick the colors, either try converting it to B&W. I find the composition and depth of field wonderful and well worth the effort - though the subject isn't very new, but that doesn't matter.

I agree with Vlad's points about this image. Though the subject has been done to death, you've taken a really unique perspective on the matter and done something very striking. I'm not sure I'm on board with Marc's point about the color because I think the color adds to the unique quality of the image. What also gets me is the progressive softening of the focus as you move out from the center of the image. For someone new to photography, you're sure showing a lot of talent in a range of subjects. Just wish I had the kind of ability in one area that you seem to be showing in several. Great work.

Beautiful Bridget. A really nice shot, The softness of focus suits the colours and the subject beautifully. The picture is more about the feeling than the actual subject hence the shallow DOF works really well
