A perfectly placed divider creating two smaller frames with different moods. The lighter & even happier shows the cat's world; the other, darker and bleak shows us, headless, clueless humans! I hope the cat wins and leaves the scene with the -presently invisible- award in his mouth!

I can just agree with the comments already given. This is a picture you could easily pass by. It opens to you in its many dimensions only after some time ( that we humanoids so seldomly think we have)

Thanks for the comments, I'm happy you all took time to drop by and leave a few words. These little moments, these everyday vignettes, pop up every now and again. Most of the time I recognize them too late to do anything but nod and smile. What I like is that we don't really know what's behind the bush. A mouse? A tasty bowl of cat food? Another cat? But whatever it is got the interest of the two protagonists. And, I guess, yours too.

Oh Jack, this is a wonderful capture and it is going to my faves! I just love it...human nature vs. animal nature and both of them with their curiosities! I love the composition of this photo also with the center dividing line provided by the red against the backdrop of the green plants within all the bleakness of the concrete. Very well done and seen; I just wish I knew Japanese so I could read the sign! Thank you for sharing. :)

The little hint of vignetting is nice, framing and freezing the story well.  I like that posed paw.  I think cats have a great capacity for fantasy, and this one is using its makeshift jungle as the impetus for stealth and stalking.  Rumor is there's a gigantic black rat living in those trees.

Beautiful. I hadn't visited for quite a while but felt like leaving a few words for the old friends. I wish you a Happy New Year, Jack. All the best for 2011!

Thanks for the comments.

Trisha - I'm happy you liked this one; a little existential streetcorner drama. I'm honored to make it into your favorites.

Jeff - I'm always drawn to scenes like this and don't find as many of them as I'd like. But the hunt goes on. As they say, sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you. Or maybe it should be sometimes you skin the cat, and sometimes the cat skins you. I guss the latter in this case.

Laurent! - The prodigal son returns, if only for a brief visit. Last year saw the exodus of every Laurent I know: you, Laurent Jaussi and Laurent-Paul Robert and a lot of other great photographers not named Laurent as well. You posted some of your finest work several months ago and then dropped off the face of the earth. I hope everything is going well with you and your family, that you're still taking photographs and that you will once again grace us with your presence in the near future. Sure do miss my conversations with you. All the best, Jack
