Porta-potties in Jersey City's "golden" riverfront.

vele

1/1500, f/4.0, canon 70-200L lens with 1.4TC at max focal length. After trying to get one of these brids in action diving into the ocean, I caught two of them taking a break on the beach near the water both facing the same direction. This was taken handheld from the hotel. The next shot was not quite. I especially like the well balanced contrasts of the sand, dry, wet and the ocean, with the birds as center of interest. Minor levewkènd sharpening in PS.

This is great. It shows the wonders that man creates while bringing him right back to.....basics, so to speak. Excellent portrail.

I also like it! The colors of the porta-potties blend well with the colors of the skyline in the background. It all works so well together that the porta-potties have become part of the city-scape. Cool Shot!

Little houses on one side and big houses on the other. I like the composition a lot and the colors are great.

The pole is a bit annoying, but I guess there wasn't much you could do about that...

I have no idea what you are talking about in the "Technical Details" field. What bird?

Thanks for the comments. I know the pole is a distraction, as well as the part of the fence on the left, but short of choping it down and moving the fence, then going to jail, there wasn't much I could do. I took a few different compositions, but this first one made the most sense to me.

Sorry about the technical detail comments. I was uploading a roll and forgot to erase that from the previous photo. The comment is from my other photo up for critique: Pelicans on a break. Please take a look at that one as I'm quite excited about it and I'd like to know your opinions. Thanks again,

Actually, this is a pretty damn good piece of work. The lighting is wonderful. That treehouse ladder or whatever it is ruins it, but if you cropped the left side into a vertical format, you would have a real winner. Crop just to left of brown "unit", and just to right of red one.

I am new to the art and science of photography, so bear with me.

I cloned out the pole and the tree in your excellent photo for fun and it looks pretty nice. (In a low-res copy not to be distributed of course.)

Is that sort of distortion of reality considered un-cool?

If so, are lenses and shutter settings that change the way an image would look to a human eye on the scence also frowned upon?

Just curious.

Thanks in advance,

Dave
