I have two suggestions for your photo. 1) tighten the composition considerably. Loose all/most of the extraneous background. The rose should be edge to edge in at least the vertical direction. 2) add some fill flash - this will help to pop the colors more and give the illusion of added sharpness. Don't overdo it though! (1 stop under the cameras exposure will do the trick) it should be very subtle so that the viewer doesn't even realize that any flash was used.

Close-ups of flowers are always difficult. You get excited when you take the shot, and then at home, somehow you wish it was bigger or tighter, etc. This flower is pretty clear and head on. You definitely need to remove the blured background as it distracts and move in closer, fill-flash will be difficult unless you use a zoom and shot from a far, I'd suggest a macro light or other ambient light, and more depth. Otherwise, well thought.

Avoid keeping the subject in the center of your

compostion- apply rule of thirds. Try to use Fuji Velvia film ( and 100) it has much better color saturation.
