Also, the photo seems underexposed. Some levels would fix that right up I'll bet :)

This is an interesting image so I hope you are ok with me sharing some thoughts. My eye is too distracted by the brightness of the foreground rock and not drawn enough to the boy, especially not to his face due to shadowing. Some selective exposure adjustment would make a great deal of difference. As would cropping a little tighter again to put more balance on the boy. Did you try this in B/W? I think it might be interesting. Cheers
