my_pics 0 Posted April 17, 2003 Eric, this image is well composed and conforms perfectly with the Rule of Thirds. You chose an excellent aperture so as to lose background detail without leaving it undefinable. However, the fisherman is too dark. You say you're new to digital manipulation so I took liberties and brightened the fisherman without brightening the background or his hat. Not wanting to lose space on Photo.net, I posted it in my New Pix folder on Webshots.com. You can copy it from there and let me know when you have returned from your trip and done so. I will then remove it from the Webshots folder. http://community.webshots.com/user/f_stop Keep up the good work. Link to comment
eric_palmer1 0 Posted April 17, 2003 Got the image. Actually the fisherman was taking the break. I've been back for 10 year. I long to go back all the time however. How did you lighten up the fisherman? Thanks for the suggestions. Link to comment
my_pics 0 Posted April 23, 2003 Using the selection tool, the face and neck of the fisherman were outlined. I set the feathering option of the selection tool to 2, I think. Then using the brightness/contrast options, only what is inside a selection is manipulated. The feathering option smooths the transition between what is inside and outside the selection. I believe I did this with Jasc's "Paint Shop Pro" v7, a $99 powerhouse for many standard operations. Link to comment
