This is my first submission on Photo.net; I scanned the slide using a

Nikon Supercoolscan 5000 ED.

Any comment or critique is very welcome. Many thanks!

This is a beautiful capture! The colors and contrasts are are just incredible. Not to mention the composition which keeps the eye busy over the whole image.

A very interesting image, Jan. The crater looks like it is below the level of the sea or lake behind it, do you have a wider shot of the area ? It is nice to see the people near and in the crater lake, it gives an idea about the scale of the scene. A very good composition, I like it. Technically, I would appreciate a bit more detail in the distant mountains, maybe it would have been more ideal to take the shot at a different time of the day so they are more illuminated. Best regards. Peter

Thank you very much for your positive feedback Peter!

Yes, the level of foreground lake is approx. 10 to 15 meters lower, there is also a huge difference in temperatures: the foreground lake has a temperature of ~25°C (77°F) while the background lake is at about 5°C (40°F). The color is due to the high concentration of volcanic minerals in the water (mainly silica if I remember well). Bathing in that water is said to be curative for the skin.

I do have another shot of this area, but I don't like it as much as this one and I haven't scanned the slide yet. I also agree with you about the lack of detail in the distant mountain, maybe I can find in the "out-sorted" box the other bracketed slides... but this is going to be archeological work ;-)

Best wishes!

Impressive and beautiful, especially in terms of colours! What is the name of this crater? Did you take this shot in mid-summer?

Congrats and best regards,

Alain
