Not to sound macabre, but I think that fire is an awesome subject, all on its own. Of course, in the case of personal tragedy, it's a horrible thing. But you've done a wonderful job of capturing the flames, smoke, and even the sparks from electrical lines overhead. Also, this image appeals to me psychologically with its use of silhouette; in the context of a fire, the flames and smoke are usually all one sees. The fireman in the middle lends some stability to an otherwise chaotic scene.

Good composition, but I might experiment a little with cropping and move the fireman around the frame a little bit and see what I got. It's too bad that something like this happened, but I'm glad you were thinking with your lens at the time!

stunning photograph!!! Talk about being in the right place... Great eye, and wonderfully composed...

Crop in the left side & bottom to make it more exciting and focused on the fireman and to remove the distracting/useless light spot at center left.

An INCREDIBLY dramatic photograph. Really stopped me in my tracks. And I too like the contrast between the flames and the silhouette (I don't know that s/he is 'serene', but certainly not in a hurry).

Brilliant shot! A photojournalistic experience at its best. The power and drama of this shot is just fantastic. That, I think, is all due to the presence of that firefighter. You should float this one with the CFD and see if they can use it.

You don't happen to live in Bridgeport do you? This reminds me a bit of the time when a crazy drunk guy in Bridgeport ran around and torched a couple of dozen garbage cans in the alleys in Bridgeport. In any event, its a great shot.
