Tropical Lagoon

vincetylor

This is Anahola Beach on the Eastside of Kauai. I climbed up on the pipe racks of my pickup truck (in the middle of the dirt parking area) to catch this view. Taken August, right at 1pm for maximum color saturation. (The original looks exactly like what you see here). This is probably our second best selling print. On a side note...caught my first Ulua (17 lbs. right on the point to the right) That was unreal!. Opinions are always welcome and appreciated. Mahalo and Aloha. www.hawaiianphotos.net

Here is a wider view that was also taken. While it does show more of the scene, I THINK I still like the posted version since it feels more like I am there....(a bit more intimate). Please feel free to share any opinions comparing the two. Thanks!

Vincent, I agree the crop works better since it eliminates the distracting foreground (at this scale it also increases the chances of noticing the swimmers in the water!). I guess for many visitors this quite sums up the ideal holiday, perhaps explaining why this is one of your most popular images sales wise. Although this has your usual eye-catching colour palette, IMHO many of your other images are aesthetically stronger.

Everything you said Richard is quite true....word for word! Thanks again.

Of course I could easily clone out the swimmers, yet I do enjoy the father and son together in there...where we all may want to be!

I like the shadows of the palm fronds. Sometimes the simple compositions result in the strongest images. What happened to your signature? Excellent image.

After watching both options for a long while I still agree with your decission. It better concentrates the viewer on the beauty of the beach and the sea. Great work, Vincent!

Can feel the warm water, hear the waves, smell the perfume of the tropics and look forward to a great big seafood dinner! Aaaaaaaah. Let's face it, it's not exactly original - but who cares! Hope you sell tons of prints!

Beautiful image, as we used to see. Definitely no reason to remove swimmers, they look fine here. Agree with Richard, by cropping of the foreground you just got rid of distracting stuff there, so the uploaded version is much better. By the way, Vincent, you, seems, cropped off your logo too.

Vincent, "....second best selling print" The critics that really matter have already spoken. I just happen to agree with them. Best, LM.

Color, color, color. I like the original crop better than the wider crop also. I especially like the shadows of the palm fronds on the sand, for some stupid reason, probably because of the detail in them. I can see why this is a good seller. ----What do you mean a bit too dark???----I think I`m the opposite of you when it comes to color, I`m sort of starting to lean towards the dark and gloomy type of photo, sort of. Great shot.

Vince-Although it is TERRIBLY hard to pick, I'd have to say this is my favorite picture of yours! Your colors, saturation, tones, and contrast are always great so I will not waste space typing--it goes without saying. What I love about this shot is your composition. I'm definitely in agreement with you that the posted version is better than the wider version. I think you hit the nail on the head by saying it is more "intimate." The wider version I feel is more of a "basic" composition that a rookie like myself would make while your posted composition makes the image better. The things I believe that are really outstanding about the composition are 1. The level you shoot from and where that places the horizon/clouds in relation to the trees and 2. the fact that you are shooting about about 45 degree angle to the left of the trees--I know that is a basic thing, but I feel it really works here. Had you moved further to the left or straight behind the 2 trees I think your image would still be good, but not as outstanding. Great job once again and thanks, as always, for sharing!

Thanks Tyler. This is still one of my favorites too. The trees are now too tall to get this again. But I have at least five really good, usable ones from this shoot carefully stored away. This being what I felt was the best for reasons described above. I was literally standing on the piperacks of my pickup with no support to get this view. Sometimes we do what we gotta do...

A hui hou, Vince
