SingSing Tambaran

'Sing Sing Tambaran' means 'Dance of the Spirits' in Tok Pisin (Talk Pidgin), the language of Papua New Guinea. This was an impromptu celebration on the beach at Tsoi Lik Lagoon in the exotically remote Lavongai Islands. We were the only people staying at the Tsoi Lik Guest House, a family run traditionally constructed hut on a spectacular beach. The children of the family invited me to their school to talk one day, and in return, they surprised us with this festive dance on the beach after sunset. There is no electricity, internet, cell service and very little petrol. The stars at night here were unbelievable. The islanders get around by walking and canoeing and subsistence farming and fishing are a way of life. We were welcomed into every aspect of their lives and I can't remember anywhere in my travels where people were more friendly. Life here is virtually untouched by modern civilization and we had a refreshingly awesome time 'off the grid' there.This is a composite of two images, one shot with a flash and then I panned the camera up and took another 25 second exposure on a tripod in the exact same location a minute later.
