dom1 1 Posted November 27, 2010 Thanks for looking! This guy was hunting the ridge in the distance when my wife saw him shift direction and head our way. I hastily changed lenses and barely manual-focused in time. The 400mm lens won't autofocus with the 1.4 teleconverter! Link to comment
steveshinn 0 Posted November 28, 2010 Your haste and skills paid off nicely here. I've not yet seen one of these in the many times I've been there. Good work, thanks for sharing. Link to comment

dom1 1 Posted December 1, 2010 Steve, Tony, thanks for commenting. I posted another photo of the owl showing him in the crater. Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted February 13, 2011 Good catch Dominick! It's difficult to shoot flying bird up in the sky since the bottom of the wings lighting would always be dark. You did fine there! The 400mm will focus with one single center focusing point on a 1D series camera (I have both a 1D Mark III & 5D Mark II and on the 5D II it's manual focus ). Link to comment
knobby6 0 Posted March 1, 2011 Lilttle bit of envy here, thats one of the owls I've been looking for. As mentioned, good light under the wings. Link to comment
randallfarhy 0 Posted March 26, 2011 That's a really nice capture Dominick, and it's looking into the camera no less! I've just seen my first Owl in the wild on Friday, a Short Eared. No easy feat getting an acceptable image of one of these birds, very very people shy. (no matter how patient I was, there always seemed to be someone driving by or jumping out of their car when the owl would come into range.) One of these days :) Regards, Randall Link to comment
